Zounaki village is a traditional Greek village in Platania, Crete. The village is home to a number of traditional Greek buildings and structures, as well as a small number of churches.It is an ideal destination for those looking to experience traditional Greek culture.The settlement is built at an altitude of 100 meters from the sea level and is located 25 km west of the center of Chania. Permanent residents residing in Zounaki are about 60.

The history of Zounaki the settlement starts in 1920. However, in 1900 it was referred as the settlement Metochi Zounali. In 1928, it refers to the Syrilian community and since 1940, it is the seat of the homonymous community. Nowadays, Zounaki constitutes together with Limni, a part of the municipality of Platanias. The main church of the village is Saint George the Trophy of the Feast. Residents celebrate him every year on the first Tuesday after the Resurrection. The temple is in the square of the village, along with the monument dedicated to Kosmas Giannakakis from Zounaki. His life was lost during the invasion of the Turks, in Cyprus.

Taste the local beer at Harma! 

Furthermore, Zounaki village houses the well-known brewery of Crete, which produces the local beer of Chania under the trade name “Harma”. From Zounaki, besides the famous beer, one can buy oranges and olives. The settlement is built between the orange groves and the olive groves of the area. The cultivation of these species is also the main occupation of the locals.
